Our History

From Aerospace to Advanced Manufacturing

Since its inception in 1955, Champlain Cable has grown through innovation, adapting its technologies and expertise to support new industries, new applications, and increasingly complex engineering challenges.

Key Milestones

  • 1955 – A Foundation for Innovation: Founded as American Super-Temperature Wires, laying the groundwork for decades of wire and cable innovation.
  • 1965 – Supporting the Space Race: Opened the Colchester, Vermont facility and supplied wire for NASA’s Apollo 8 program during a pivotal era of American space exploration.
  • 1980 – A New Chapter Begins: Following the sale of Haveg Industries, the company became Champlain Cable Corporation and continued expanding its technical capabilities.
  • 1990s – Expanding into Emerging Markets: Pioneered innovations in automotive, telecommunications, and high-speed data transmission as new technologies reshaped global industries.
  • Today – Engineering for What’s Next: Building on decades of innovation through advanced materials, electron beam cross-linking, and custom-engineered wire and cable solutions for the world’s most demanding applications.
